A note of caution: Cruise Lines are governed by marine laws that make them very difficult to deal with if you have an injury, either of body or of service. People have been injured on cruise ships, contracted viruses that ended a vacation, missed port calls because of bad weather and you the passenger and paying customer have very little recourse under the law. It is all in the fine print, very fine print, on the ticked provided by the cruise line. cruising is fun, but you may be on your own if you have difficulty.

Provence in Montreal
If there is a part of France as magical in its effect upon the senses as Paris itself, it is Provence, that sunny, sensual province in the south of France that runs along the Mediterranean coastline in the vicinity of Marseilles. Ports seek solutions as ships get bigger Mary Lu Abbott A flotilla of nearly 40 cruise ships is winding up its season in Alaska this month, having carried more than 900,000 passengers over about 20 weeks to a handful of small ports. That's a lot of visitors when you realize Alaska has only about 636,000 residents. ( from the LATIMES )

Last week it was deck replacement time at the cottage. This deck may look okay from this angle, but it was in pretty bad shape. The stringers underneath were rotted away, and the deck was in danger of collapsing.
The local government requires a building permit to replace a deck. Because the deck is within 66 feet of the lake it can only be replaced, not changed or expanded . Nothing could be torn down without the permission of the building inspector- who just so happened, was on vacation at the time. Hence mega pictures to prove we didn't change anything.
After a week of very hard work by three men and at times, one woman, the new deck began to take shape. A weekend project turned into a major undertaking.
We had to leave the new deck with half the decking on, and no railing, and no stairs. To help with the project niece Jenna and her 5 day-old Olivia arrived.
Finally it was time to put my feet up as we began the long treck back to Glencoe. We travelled across a large part of southern Ontario and it was frustrating to learn that the most expensive gasoline, by a longshot, was in Glencoe. Even in the wilds of Frontenac County the gas was cheaper than Glencoe.
We didn't get much time to enjoy this, but our deck will look out on this scene.

It is just under a year since we saw an ad for a Med. Cruise for 1 week, courtesy of Sunquest, for just under half price. I have been watching for similar deals to appear this year, but none todate. We were able to purchase our tickets and leave on our cruise a week later. It was great fun and the weather was exceptional.

We have no need to go to Mexico to see Monarchs. Our weeping willow tree in the back yard has been playing host to a large number of monarchs as they prepare to wend their way south to Mexico. They are skittish and hard to photograph, but Meredith managed to take some excellent pictures, this being one.
Sunday,September 4, 2005 @ Glencoe Ontario. That's $6.18 per Imperial gallon for those who don,t think metric. How much damage can this do to the economy of Canada? The World? How much is enough for Haliburton and George Bush's friends? It this the 'Skull and Bones' way of ruling the World? Questions, questions.
Thinking of a trip? Have factor in a 'little extra' for the oil barons. We wouldn't want these poor people to suffer.
Going out for dinner? Don't forget George's tip.....Oh! I forgot. It will already be factored into the price of you food and service. Maybe if you walk instead of taking your car it will offset the increased cost.
Hey, there are some good cruise deals out there right now, that is until you factor in the fuel surcharges.
Isn't life great in the world of the American Empire. No security concerns because we don't have any security. No concerns about freedom and democracy because in this perfect world we don't have any.... except those rights and freedoms that George and his 'Skull and Bones' cronies allow us. Freedom!
