Tips for senior travellers to stay safe and healthy Dec. 17, 2005. 01:00 AM
Some advice for travel pros and wannabes Dec. 17, 2005. 01:00 AM It's that time of year, when the lucky ones among us swap shopping lists for packing lists.
THE GREAT WALL OF AMERICA
THE ROMANS TRIED IT; THE CHINESE TRIED IT; THE RUSSIANS TRIED IT; ISRAEL IS TRYING IT. MAYBE MR.BUSH WILL HAVE THE USA SURROUNDED BY A WALL IN HIS NEXT LIFE, OR THE ONE AFTER THAT. HE CERTAINLY NEEDS TO EXERT BETTER CONTROL OVER ALL THOSE SNOW BIRDS THAT ARE INVADING THE US AT THIS TIME OF YEAR. GOOD CALL UNCLE SAM! AFTER MISSLE DEFENSE COMES "THE WALL".
U.S. studying wall along Canadian border Dec. 17, 2005. 07:46 PM Canada has no interest in a new U.S. initiative to study building a security wall along the border, officials said Saturday.
THIS RAISES SOME INTERESTING QUESTIONS OF GEOGRAPHY, SUCH AS WHERE WILL THE WALL GO IN RELATIONS TO THE GREAT LAKES?
HOW ABOUT A WALL DOWN THE CENTRE OF THE SHIPPING CHANNEL IN ST. CLAIR RIVER?
HOW MANY GATES WILL THERE BE IN THE WALL?
WILL GUNS BE ALLOWED ACROSS THE WALL IN BOTH DIRECTIONS, OR FROM THE USA INTO CANADA?
WILL THE WALL ALSO RUN ALONG THE ALASKAN-CANADIAN BORDER?
ETC, ETC.
THIS COULD BE THE BEGINNING OF A NEW ECONOMIC BOOM IN THE WORLD. THINK OF ALL THE YEARS OF WORK FOR THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY, AND IT PROBABLY WOULDN,T COST USA TAX PAYERS ANY MORE THAN A COUPLE OF WARS. THINK OF ALL THE SOFTWOOD LUMBER, OR CONCRETE REQUIRED TO BUILD THIS HUGE UNDERTAKING. ( DO YOU THINK THE POLITICIANS WHO FORMULATED THIS AMENDMENT KNOW HOW LONG THE CANADA-USA BORDER IS.....?)

HAPPY 12TH MICHAEL!
While driving through Toronto on Sunday evening I took some pictures of spectacular, if not over-done christmas light displays. This one is on Caledonia Drive. Most impressive.
Another creative display is found on Marguetta, near College. It has music and moving parts. EG Santa waves.
This display of Christmas spirit is much in contrast with the GRINCHES who decided to have an election campaign coincident with the holiday season. The same grinches who have taken over the airwaves at this very moment to spout political double-talk , and perhaps the occasional untruth.

Judges sink jet ski rulingBy Alan Hamilton WHEN is a ship not a ship? When it’s a Yamaha WaveRunner jet ski, according to the Court of Appeal.
Ships set sail for specific destinations. Jet skis — marine scooters dedicated to fun and not to world trade — pootle about in offshore waters. Lord Phillips of Worth Matravers, the Lord Chief Justice, sitting with Mrs Justice Rafferty and Mr Justice Mackay, decided yesterday that a jet skier who caused a serious accident should not have been prosecuted under the 1995 Merchant Shipping Act.
Mark Goodwin, 25, pleaded guilty at Bournemouth Crown Court in August after he ran, drove or sailed his three-seater Waverunner into a stationary jet ski off Bowleaze Cove in Dorset, leaving Paul Facer with severe facial injuries. Mr Goodwin was prosecuted under Section 58 of the Act, which covers offences committed by the master of, or any seaman employed in, a ship. Mr Goodwin, who was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment, was bailed pending an appeal. The Court of Appeal judges dismissed the original verdict yesterday, having listened to expert Admiralty QCs discuss the relevance of the Merchant Shipping Act to aquatic toys.

MAYBE AIRPORTS AND PLANES NEED TO INSTALL SHOWERS
If a seatmate smells bad, come clean to the crew -- quickly
Laurie Berger Question: On a packed, 16-hour flight to Japan, my three children and I were seated in a row next to a family that had not bathed recently. The odor was very strong. The flight attendant would periodically come by and spray air freshener, and the offending adult passengers would occasionally douse themselves with rosewater in the lavatory. I developed a migraine headache and could not eat anything. I paid for four full international fares and had a miserable flight. I'd like to know if I have any rights on a long flight. Airlines can remove intoxicated passengers from a flight. What about those with offensive odors?
