"Home Exchange: a different way of travelling. Have you ever thought of going on holiday without spending a dime except on the plane ticket? Would you like to travel while staying at a home away from home within your budget? If so, then the home exchange formula is for you! "

I have been looking into the concept of Home Exchange as a possible future travel experience. A friend of ours did this 2x and was quite taken with it. They are planning to do it again.

There are a fairly large number of groups, with web sites dedicated to home exchanges. I have looked at a few:
http://www.another-home.com/index.html , http://www.homelink.ca , http://intervac-online.com , http://www.4homex.com/teacher.htm , http://www.seniorshomeexchange.com

You can view the available exchanges on these sites, but they operate as a club, in most cases, and you have to pay an annual fee to join, and to get your info listed. Some specialize in a particular country, but most are global.

Comments:
Sounds like a great idea. Except: WHO WANTS TO VACATION IN GLENCOE?!

(I'm allowed to say that, having spent my formative years there.)

Good Point, but you never know. There are adventerous people everywhere. jd

Not sure where Glencoe is (sounds familiar) but I grew up in southwestern Ont (Wiarton, Markdale, Chesley, Hanover) and many home exchangers would love a holiday in beautiful rural Ontario!

I have lived most of my adult life in London, England, and have operated a worldwide home exchange agency, Home Base Holidays, for 20 years. Have a look at the exchange offers available.

Lois, thanks for the input. FYI Glencoe is a village of just over 2000 inhabitants, located about 50 km. sw of London, Ont. I'm not sure when you lived in Ontario, but you may have heard of Glencoe through sports, or because it is the home of Tender Tootsie shoes. It is also about 80 km from Sarnia and a little less from Chatam. It is in the heart of soya bean and corn growing country. We are about 15 km north of Highway 401.

Ah, now I can place Glencoe - not a million miles from my part of Ont, Grey/Bruce counties. I haven't lived in Canada since 1968 but go back to Ont often (it will always be 'home').

Sorry I seem to have added duplicate comments (hope you can delete the three duplicates!)

I also have a blog about home exchange holidays (link in name) which may be of interest to your readers who want to find out more about the concept. I am always happy to answer any questions too.
